for Pat Adair, and the people who love her...

Our beloved Pat got some shocking news recently, and we're off and running on a mysterious medical adventure. Not an adventure we would have picked, but we're off just the same... (If you're new to the blog, start here.)

Feeling better, still not sure...

Here we are at John Muir hospital, our new home away from home. Mom's been here since Monday, and Mike's been here since Tuesday. I went to work for two days and came back last night. We're still trying to figure out what caused Mom to collapse last week. Her stay here has been up and down. She felt really terrible yesterday, after having an ultrasound, chemo, and two sessions of blood transfusions. All the fluid left her breathing like a fish out of water by last night, and she was absolutely exhausted. After an injected diuretic, her breathing became easier about 4 a.m., and she got some sleep. She took a shower this morning and reports that she feels "a million times better!" In the photo, taken an hour ago, she doesn't look like she's spent four days in the hospital.

Patio's had periodic headaches and a high temperature, and they still aren't sure why. As much as it would be nice for Mom to be sleeping in her own bed, we'd all be more comfortable if they knew what happened, so we could feel like it won't happen again. The internist just came by, and his current speculation is that it could be her gall stones, which they've known about, are causing the problem. He's ordering a test that will try to figure that out, and we'll go from there. It's likely she'll stay again tonight.

Mike and I are sitting in the waiting room while Pat naps. As if it wasn't bad enough spending so much time in the hospital, Kevin Costner as Robin Hood is on TV. Now that's painful.

Love,
Dave (and Mike)

OH MY GOSH!!!! No wonder Pat hasn't returned my call. My PC crashed right after I came back from vacation and just got on today. Had to replace the motherboard. Since Pat's site is in my favs I was not aware. SO SAD. John Muir is wonderful, so I am glad she is there. But maybe she is home. Today is 29th. Dave, Pat truely is fortunate to have you there, and Mike's family also. Please give Pat a huge hug for me. Will keep her in my prayers. Thank you sooo mcuh for updates. I know how Pat would be looking forward to that cruise. If anyone deserves it, it is your mom.
Love,
Gladys

Hi Pat! I don't know about you but I think you are OVERdue for a reprieve!! What a week for all of you. But none of the rest of us are getting poked, prodded, and needled around the clock like you are - honestly you make being sick sound like pretty darn hard work this week! Here's wishing you get some answers that work soon on the headaches and high fever and that nothing else crops up to hinder a much healthier week next week. Meantime, enjoy every bit of respite that may come your way.

Colorado is a funky place! The weather changes every 30 seconds or so. In the 8 days we've been here we've had lows of 28 and highs near 70, and snow twice since the official start of spring!! The Rockies are beautiful to our immediate west - we can be in the foothills in 10 minutes. The high desert prairie to the east seems endless - but the wide expanse of blue sky almost makes up for the bleakness of the landscape in that direction. I've had Sasha and my sister Karri and nieces Allie and Jenna to visit over their spring break from school and it's been fun to get to know the place with them. Next week is 'back to work' though. Try to take it easy, yeah? And please know a day doesn't go by that we don't think of you with prayers and good wishes. Love Kim
